Making (some) progress…

Slowly getting this pile of beads from the last few months photographed… Next will be to edit and size them all before actually creating listings in my Etsy store.  Siiiggghh… This the super boring part of beadmaking (hence why my store is usually empty) – second only to cleaning beads.

And because I am a total procrastinator when faced with unpleasant chores, here’s the same pic as above run through the Percolator app on my phone. Cool, huh?

OK, back to work…

Cool video on goddesses in prehistoric art

prehistoric goddess

The first 3.5 minutes or so of this video show some really fabulous ancient goddess sculptures…

UPDATE:  I  had to remove the video as it kept auto-launching (how annoying!).  If you’d like see it, either click the picture above or HERE.   (video starts with a short ad.)

Video interview #2… about process (and featuring my son)

This is the other video that Liana, the host of Contemplative, Expressive and Imaginative Arts, shot last weekend… it was an intro/warm-up session right before we did the live radio interview & video. In this one, we discuss the glass beadmaking process a bit more and you’ll get to hear what my son thinks about having a mom who plays with fire…

At the end, there’s no demo because my hands were shaking so much I couldn’t get the tank attached (doh! LOL).  At some point, I’ll have to make sure i actually post a video working on the torch.

Also, the full annealing cycle for each of my beads takes about 6-8 hours – i only mention the soak time (to even out the heat in each piece) in the video.

Live radio interview & video about my art…

This past weekend i was interviewed by Liana Voia, the host of Contemplative, Expressive and Imaginative Arts for her live radio art therapy show.

I was a nervous wreck in the beginning but once i calmed down i think it went well. Liana asked some great questions and it was wonderful opportunity to explain my passion for glass to someone who appreciates art and supports local artists. For those with a slow connection there’s an audio-only version as well.

There’s also a second video with my son participating which i’ll post tomorrow.  Anyhoo, enjoy and leave a comment!  I’d love to hear what you all think…

Idea for a new goddess sculpture

kali goddess2

Working on designing another (4th) goddess sculpture… I drew this on my new Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet which is SO MUCH FUN!! Not sure that I’m in love with this colour combo but it’s a happy start. I still need to design the base and a topper but so far, so good. I think by the time it’s done it should be around 8-10″ high.

I was only sketching on paper before which was a pain since i kept changing my mind and then had to start all over again from scratch each time the idea changed… not to mention the random bits of drawn on paper trailing around the house. Digital design is definitely the way to go!

I made this clay prototype first to work out the basic size and shapes.  It’s been travelling around the house with me and has been reworked about four or five times.

Now to work on refining the colour scheme.  Next will be picking out the glass colours, checking for compatibility and then making some actual test pieces in glass – that’s the fun part!

I’ve also updated this blog’s template… what do you think?
